Trump asked NFL players for pardon suggestions. On Thursday, they responded.

Thu, 06/21/2018 - 10:54pm

President Donald Trump invited NFL players to reach out and suggest people who have been mistreated and should be considered for a pardon. He thought it was an olive branch to a group of football players that had been protesting during the national anthem over racial injustice, police brutality and an unfair criminal system. He noted last week that none had taken him up on his offer.

There's interest in bringing a college bowl game to Pittsburgh, but …

Thu, 06/21/2018 - 10:54am

A dozen years ago, it might have been hard to imagine Heinz Field or PNC Park playing host to a bowl game. College football’s postseason contests have historically been tourism magnets for cities with domed stadiums and/or weather much warmer than Pittsburgh’s in December and early January.

Steelers 7th-round pick Joshua Frazier was a backup at Alabama. He says that’s a good thing.

Tue, 06/19/2018 - 9:12am

Joshua Frazier made 15 tackles in his senior season at Alabama, ranking 20th on the team. In his first three years, the defensive tackle recorded a total of just 13 stops for the Crimson Tide.

See you in September: How the Steelers plan to approach another late arrival by Le'Veon Bell

Sun, 06/17/2018 - 9:51pm

Unless Le’Veon Bell unexpectedly signs a long-term contract by July 16, the Steelers likely are headed down a familiar road this summer. The All-Pro running back won’t be at training camp and won’t play in any of the four preseason games this summer. If Bell follows the same plan as a year ago, he will report to the team one week before the season begins, sign his franchise tag and play in Week 1.

Ben Roethlisberger says his kids won't play contact football before fifth grade

Sun, 06/17/2018 - 1:47pm

It’s become a Father’s Day tradition for Ben Roethlisberger — leading hundreds of grade school-age children through intensive football instruction.

Ron Cook: As Martavis Bryant's saga gets sadder, the Steelers' decision looks smarter

Fri, 06/15/2018 - 3:38pm

I thought Jamie Dixon was a bad hire. He became the winningest basketball coach in Pitt history. I said Jim Rutherford was too old and too washed up for the Penguins. He built consecutive Stanley Cup winners and is headed to the Hall of Fame.

With minicamp done, the Steelers are looking forward to a break (sort of)

Fri, 06/15/2018 - 7:00am

Some Steelers took more personal time than others during voluntary organized team activities, but after minicamp came to an end Thursday, everyone on the roster will get a nearly six-week break.

Martavis Bryant reportedly facing another NFL suspension

Fri, 06/15/2018 - 6:49am

The decision to trade Martavis Bryant already is looking like a great move by Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, and it has nothing to do with the development of Mason Rudolph.

Mike Tomlin can't wait for Steelers training camp: 'I'd go tonight'

Thu, 06/14/2018 - 1:22pm

After three weeks of offseason training activities and three days of minicamp, the Steelers will not convene again as a team until players and coaches report to training camp July 25 in Latrobe.

Ron Cook: Terrell Owens' snub of Canton is par for the course

Thu, 06/14/2018 - 9:48am

Terrell Owens made dubious history this month when he announced he won’t attend the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony Aug. 4, when he will be among eight legends of the game to be honored. It is believed this is a first for any athlete in any of the major Halls of Fame.

Steelers bet $9 million on Bud Dupree's move to blind side

Thu, 06/14/2018 - 7:40am

The Steelers picked up the fifth-year option on Bud Dupree’s rookie contract last month. Barring an unforeseen change of heart, the Steelers will pay Dupree more than $9 million in 2019 unless they can come to terms with him on a long-term contract before then. The bottom line is they believe in Dupree’s talent and are showing more faith in him than they did Jarvis Jones, the 2013 first-round pick whose fifth-year option was declined.

Karl Dunbar feels right at home with the Steelers

Thu, 06/14/2018 - 6:30am

When Karl Dunbar was hired as the Steelers defensive line coach in February, he recognized plenty of the faces he saw around the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. They were team employees who have been around since his playing days in Pittsburgh.

Steelers new secondary coach Tom Bradley will stress tackling, fundamentals at training camp

Wed, 06/13/2018 - 5:54pm

Tom Bradley never played or coached in the NFL, which was perfectly fine for Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

Keith Butler vows more tackling practice in Steelers training camp

Wed, 06/13/2018 - 1:22pm

The hangover of losing to Jacksonville 45-42 at home in the Steelers’ only playoff game last season persists. As much as it haunts their defense, it motivates them.

JuJu Smith-Schuster on recovery from knee injury: 'I'll be ready'

Wed, 06/13/2018 - 12:42pm

Steelers second-year receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has a knee injury that has prevented him from participating in any of the team’s practices this spring, but he fully expects to be ready to play when the team reports to training camp July 25.

From Larry Fitzgerald to Antonio Brown, new Steelers WR coach Darryl Drake has been 'blessed'

Wed, 06/13/2018 - 7:53am

There are NFL assistant coaches who can go their entire careers and not coach a Hall of Fame player. Then there is Darryl Drake. He spent the past five seasons coaching Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who very likely will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he retires. In his new job with the Steelers, Drake inherited Antonio Brown, who very well could do the same.
